How to start a fire with IKEA stuff.

This is the kind of art that I like. Meaningfull, simple basic idea and well executed. This is called FLAMMA (A Basic Need), by Helmut Smits.

Using WP-prettyPhoto is easy.

If you want to quickly add a lightbox functionnality to view your images in WordPress, I suggest you try WP-prettyPhoto by friend Pier-Luc. This plugin wraps the excellent prettyPhoto lightbox clone by other friend Stéphane Caron into a WordPress plugin with options and easy installation.

I recommend it because it took me about two minutes to setup here to my liking and because the styling is clean and the transitions are fast. Very neat. See examples below, two picture from my childhood in the 80′s.

iTunes 10, a small interface detail I love

Here is a small interface change from iTunes 10 that greatly improves the usage I make of it.

No more empty album artwork in the left column for Unknown Albums. This is a huge space saver. Before, each line was taking as much space as an complete album just to show an empty cover.

Wilderness Downtown, an HTML clip by Arcade Fire

It’s 2010 now. This is the time when great bands like Arcade Fire make videoclips with HTML5 and Google Maps.

I loved it, my version was taking place in the industrial district of the suburb were I grew up, not far from my first job as a teen. The finale of the clip took all the meaning it could for me.

Awesome.

Update: This website made me think about the stupid HTML5 vs Flash war. This is exactly the kind of website Flash was built for and I think there is a lot of reasons why this website should have been done in Flash.

There is no virtual in web.

If you still talk about the web as a virtual reality, or if you separate your actions on the web versus your actions in the reality, check out this promotional video about Facebook Places.

Now, what I think about Facebook, Facebook Places, foursquare and other location-based services would be a whole other discussion. This video simply spoke to me as a good emotional answer to people who still think that using the web in 2010 keeps us disconnected.

5 email tips

I personally don’t suffer that much from too many emails, but I know some close friends do.

Here are 5 tips from Kevin Rose to help you see the light at the end of the tunnel of unread emails.
