A month ago, I sold my almost new road bike in order to get a cheaper one. I needed a bike that I could lock on the corner of any street while I join some friends for a beer or simply to go to work. So, for the last three weeks I’ve been actively searching for an old road bike with a good frame for under 150$…Let me tell you it’s not an easy task in Montreal because bike shops usually put their hands on these bikes, add a couple of new parts and resell them for 500$.
After numerous hours spent on Craigslist and Kijiji, I finally managed to get one at SOS Vélo yesterday. SOS Vélo is were they build those Ecovelo bikes that we often see in the city. But they also sell used bikes that they receive as donations and I was lucky enough to pick one of the two they had in stock for 135$: a great pinkish Niji bike (links to flickr set) that I’ll spend the summer riding and upgrading.
I’ll keep you posted.
